Want to Know Some of the Causes of Neck and Back Pain?

November 11, 2016

Have you ever wondered why you have neck or back pain? Dr. Beau Van Wechel, your Union, KY chiropractor at Pure Health Chiropractic, share some common causes of pain.

Man With Back Pain

Accidents

Accidents are a frequent cause of both back and neck pain. Damage to your muscles, tissues, discs, ligaments and joints can occur whether you've been in a car accident or suffered a fall. Sometimes, even a mild fall or other injuries may cause painful neck and back symptoms that last for weeks or months. Slipping on the ice or tripping over your dog can cause more damage than you may initially realize.

Age

Your body experiences wear and tear with the passing years. As you age, you're more likely to experience osteoarthritis or degenerative disc disease, a condition that occurs when your discs lose elasticity and shrink. If you develop the disease, your discs may begin to press on your nerves, causing numbness, tingling and pain in your back or neck. Narrowing nerve passages caused by spinal stenosis can also cause pain and numbness.

Poor posture

These days, many of us spend hours hunched over a desk, which can seriously affect posture. Poor posture can throw off the alignment of your spine, causing nagging back or neck pain.

Cell phone use

If you're like most people, you look down at your phone or tablet when you text or surf the Internet. Unfortunately, keeping your head bent can cause neck problems if you do it long enough. The problem even has a name: Text neck. Symptoms of Text neck include muscle spasms, headaches and neck, shoulder and upper back pain.

How can the Union, KY chiropractors help me?

Your chiropractor will create a treatment plan for you based on his or her examination, X-rays and other tests, your symptoms and the nature of your injury. Spinal manipulation may be used to gently realign your spine and reduce pain, numbness and other symptoms. Your treatment plan might also include massage, heat, ultrasound and electrical stimulation treatments.

Don't let neck or back pain sideline you. Call Dr. Beau Van Wechel, at Pure Health Chiropractic, your Union, KY chiropractor, at (859) 647-7730 to schedule an appointment.
