Your sciatic nerve is both the longest and widest nerve in the body - and when you experience pain in this nerve, you can feel it from your lower back all the way down to your feet.
Find out how your chiropractor could improve the symptoms related to herniated discs.
Our goal is to treat and alleviate your symptoms using the most conservative treatment options available. Besides the little things you can do to treat your symptoms while in the comfort of your own home (e.g. taking over-the-counter pain medications), there are other treatment options and chiropractic techniques we can perform to reduce disc problems.
Here are some of the treatment options available to those with vertebral disc issues:
Spinal manipulation is a great way to reduce mild to moderate forms of lower back pain. By using either hands or a device, your Union chiropractor will apply a controlled amount of force to the spinal joints to help improve mobility and reduce pain and tenderness.
Electrotherapy such as transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) places electrodes on the skin to stimulate nerves and muscles. It’s believed that electrical stimulation may actually block pain signals, helping to reduce disc-related discomfort.
During flexion distraction we have our patient lie down on a table that is specially designed to gently stretch and manipulate the spine. This table actually moves the disc away from the affected nerve to reduce any swelling and pain that you are experiencing. This chiropractic technique is great for those with disc and nerve problems.
Pelvic blocking places soft, supportive wedges to stabilize the hips while your Union chiropractor carefully manipulates the areas to also help move the disc away from the affected nerve. Pelvic blocking is a great way to gently realign your spine and reduce back pain.
Before we create a treatment plan specifically for you we will want to perform a thorough medical evaluation to figure out what could be causing your symptoms. We will check your posture and reflexes, discuss the symptoms you are experiencing and we also run X-rays or MRIs to clearly identify the issue you’re having. Only then we can provide you with an effective treatment plan.
If you are experiencing symptoms of a herniated disc or back injury then it’s time to schedule a visit to see your Union Kentucky chiropractor at Chiropractic Care Center. Call us today!
